Assistant Squad Leader

This sections covers the combat equipment and weapons for this role. It doesn't mention things like uniform as every trooper had the same basic uniform. So if portraying the above position you should have the following items :-

Although there was only supposed to be 6 SMGs per company, paratroopers were known to be resorceful and seem to almost be in a possition to do as they pleased. So you'll see a lot more than 6 SMGs in a company! In fact, if you look at the Pathfinder pics, you can see that many in one stick. So Assistant Squad leaders could take two routes... keep the M1 Garand or 'acquire' a M1A1 Thompson. The basics of both are the same. The only difference in kit are mention at the very bottom. The assistant squad leader performs duties assigned by the squad leader and takes command of the squad in his absence. (See FM 7-10, par. 134b.) He is armed with the M1903 rifle and antitank grenade launcher: he employs high-explosive antitank rifle grenades to combat any hostile armored vehicles that come within range-- approximately 75 yards. (For characteristics of antitank grenades and sighting and aiming, see FM 23-30 and changes thereto.)

This is only a small part of what we do, a website is simply too small to handle everything. With Facebook going to shit in terms of historical interest... basically if they don't like, they delete it or hide it. The Military History Network has been created. Bringing together, collectors, military historians, re-enactors, military vehicle enthusiasts and anyone else interested in anything military related. Not being run by a company, but by collectors and reenactors for likeminded folk. It is completely free, has no stupid rules, there is no need to sensor photographs containing things that make FB cry, resulting in bans and deleting history... this is the future of all things military related.
